It seems to me you're making your own way very satisfactorily! It's wonderful to hear because it's not always that way for individuals.

We lost our full-term baby son and it's why I now do what I do. I delved deep into the spiritual aspects of neo-natal death and miscarriage etc. in my early years so when you tell me your son has met your miscarried children I'm not in the least surprised but I am delighted! :)

You're right there's so much we fail to appreciate about life, death and what follows (and precedes ;)) but there is information to be had when we begin looking. Bless you and your family as you all learn so much. :)

I’m trying Mac. I have my okay and not so okay days but it has only been 19 weeks. I appreciate this is part of the journey. I live for Ben’s signs and anything/any way that’ll connect me with him. We were very close.

Thank you for your warm comments. I wish you and your family peace as you too continue this journey.

COMMENTARY: WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF HUMAN LIFE?

This is the ultimate question, and, sadly, one which we often lose sight of in the activities and plans of everyday life. One answer which particularly resonates with Spiritualists was given by the highly credible afterlife teacher, Silver Birch:

"The purpose is to enable the incarnating spirit to undergo a variety of experiences that will fit it for the next stage, the one that begins beyond physical death. Earth is the schoolhouse where the soul should learn its lessons and thus be properly educated and equipped for the next stage of its eternal life."

As always, the Zammits give many other sources of information on their highly-recommended website.

If we are in the afterlife (beforelife) prior to incarnating on earth, then why do we need to come to earth to undergo experiences to equip us to be in the afterlife? (seriously asking)

That's an easy question to pose, bb, but an awkward one to answer briefly. I'll give you the way I approach things. First I have to break my general rule by saying I accept - believe because it's something absolutely fundamental but unable to be proven - that there is a purpose to our being here at all. Beyond that my understanding is influenced by what I learned from a book (Soul Trek) channeled by a Brit medium some years ago.

Whatever and 'wherever' source is (I've used that word previously) we individuals all originated there and 'in time' we'll all return; what happens in-between is where/when we are now. Important experiences as incarnates - and at all other stages of our existence as spirits - result in our making spiritual progress which leads us back to source. Apparently what our souls gain from their existences away from source is vitally important to source and is why source individuates the way it does.

In my mind's eye I see us on individual journeys. We leave source and head away from it on the 'outward run', this physical dimension its most distant point. (What happens to us along the way is too detailed to go into in this posting.) In this dimension we experience incarnation(s) as human individuals and what we apparently gain from our experiences shapes and enhances our spiritual progress, in turn enabling us eventually to move on to the next stage or dimension and 'in time' return to source - the bit that is anathema to yourself and others, I think.

It's for those reasons we come to earth. Not to equip us to be in the so-called afterlife but to enable us to progress in it and through it the way we seem to be driven to progress.

I don't think Silver Birch (thread topic) ever went into details such as those above. His guidance focused more on life here and life immediately 'over there'.

Thanks, mac -- that explanation made it much more clear to me, especially capped off as it was with "It's for those reasons we come to earth. Not to equip us to be in the so-called afterlife but to enable us to progress in it and through it the way we seem to be driven to progress."

I'm not sure I entirely agree, but at least that perspective/concept makes much more sense to me than the one I thought was being put forth as I mentioned in my question.

I'm pleased my thoughts are helping you. You have heard me refer to the philosophy, movement and religion that underpins my own understanding of these matters rather than naming it and that's because ALF does not promote any one religion over another. BUT my own has a solid track record of guiding seekers over the basics of life, death and what follows and communicating via mediumship with spirit people - and these ARE people. That's been happening since 1848 when the movement emerged in the US and spread far beyond. So now I have no hesitation in suggesting seekers research the stuff that for me and for others like me is everyday knowledge.

You are doing so well for yourself though without any outside help and that's just great! It appears you're persuaded about survival and you tell us you're aware your beloved son is around you - I have not a scrat of doubt you're bang on right. Our loved ones in spirit (it tells us in the book I've mentioned and was reading just today) can be sad that all the efforts they make to signal their continued presence often are not recognized. You are recognizing signs, though, and that must be a blessing for your son as well as for yourself.

You're right that he's with you in a different way but you do understand that he is actually there. And for me that's the key element. If you find more than that it's a glorious bonus. :)
I managed to order the book “They Shall Be Comforted”. I followed your link and was delighted to learn that they would ship to Canada! Thank you so much for letting us know of its new availability. I am looking forward to reading it.
