This came to me in an epiphany only a few minutes ago and I thought it was important enough to share. A few years ago now when our beloved Loki had to go, it was two days before when we took him to the vet. He was excited to go, but he was always excited to go and that's another story. But now I see it very clearly, he thought it was the end and he thought it would be a triumphant thing and everything would be good. Two days later we had to have someone come by the house and euthanize him peacefully because he could not get up and he could not walk and it was a painful couple of days for him and it was hard for all of us. He knew he wanted to go at the vet. I didn't need to really even mention any of that background information for my epiphany. It's very simple. Pets think of life and death as humans did in the movie Logan's run. That's all.
