Hurricane Ida did a lot of damage in the south and went on to do a whole bunch more on the east coast.

As first reported it wasn't expected in the east the way it happened and it appeared to be a new phenomenon attributable to climate change. Further on I learned that forecasters had warned what might happen and the apparent new pattern of unprecedentedly extreme weather looks like perhaps being down to a chance confluence of weather systems.

Whether that's because of climate change or natural weather variability time will tell but the severity of the east coast weather wasn't as unexplained or unanticipated as first reported. It perhaps shows we need to be cautious about claims.
