I hope you all are doing as well as you can. Sorry about staying away, but I have been stuck in limbo for a while and just accepting my loss. I feel re-engaged and hope I can maintain that.

I heard an interesting talk that I wanted to post here, but it took a month. I think this is good.

Hi Ruby. Thanks,. As you know, "accepting" is way different than being okay with it. You just get used to it. You are very welcome. You have heard of him before?

Yes, I had heard of him from the textbook used on the online parapsychology course I did in the spring (he has many research papers to his name) and also from the videos with John Cleese on the DOPS University of Virginia website mentioned at the end of the interview. You can scroll to the foot from the website to find them, although you probably have already. I have made a few notes from the interview which was very interesting indeed. Also it's a new interview as he mentions the death of James Randi. I like the "subtle asymmetry" he tries to explain. He says that physical mediumship tips the balance for him towards survival away from Super Psi because of demeanour, diction, sense of humour, sense of purpose, seeming intent", but then says that after his death he does not necessarily expect to be aware of a previous consciousness. Although these ideas appear to conflict to me, he is a scientist.
Before you posted the direct URL, I followed your link last night and was very entertained by the interview with Lloyd Auerbach and his "interactive ghosts"!!

Ruby, that is quite a post. Thanks for doing that. I am glad you liked the LLoyd Auerbach interview. I will look that up. No, I didn't see the the video concerning James Randi. Could you please post the link or send it to me? Speaking of Randi, he has been on my mind. I watched one of his interviews last night and he talked about an afterlife researcher (PhD.) in California who he wanted to put to the test, but the guy changed his number and e-mail address and disappeared. Randi is always very discouraging to listen to when it comes to this subject. Any thoughts on him? He is always 180 degrees from the academics who I have been following.

Hi Denver Guy! I just meant that I knew the interview with Ed Kelly must have been recent because James Randi died a month or so ago. He mentions him as he feels he wilfully misrepresented his research. Many others feel his million dollar challenge was corrupt. Randi is, or rather was, a showman and not bound by the professional ethics of scientists. There was an occasion when two magicians sent by J Randi fooled two parapsychologists in a laboratory with their "psychic skills", but apparently they were only taken in to an extent, rather less than what was claimed by Randi, and after that time experiments in labs are often designed with the help of magicians to make sure scientists can't be deceived again.
Lloyd Auerbach's stories are mind boggling! Thanks again for posting this Forever Family website. The interview with Lloyd Auerbach is only an excerpt but definitely listen to it. I was aware of him before from a report in Leslie Kean's book "Surviving Death" from 2017. Do try to get hold of it if you've not already read it. It's wonderful! She is very careful and goes into mind-boggling cases like a detective. Various specialists in their fields write their own chapters. Highly recommended! L Auerbach's chapter is about his investigation of Lois, another interactive ghost from the early 1980's who was apparently afraid that he would bring "blasters" to get rid of her because she was a fan of the film "Ghost Busters"! And that's not even the most outrageous claim in the story!! I'm just responding here to the bit in Ed Kelly's interview where he said after his death he does not necessarily expect to be aware of a previous consciousness. I suppose he cannot "expect" anything, being a science guy, but Lloyd Auerbach's investigation of Kate who appeared to have fulfilled her wish to visit Paris, and Lois, in the book, would suggest that they remember their previous lives!

I should have picked up on the reference to James Randi. I must have missed that when I heard the first broadcast. I am about 40% through listening to it again.
Thank you for the suggestion that I get ""Surviving Death." I will do so. I also appreciate your explanation of what Dr. Kelly was saying.
Have you watched anything from the Swedenborg Foundation's channel? I like what I hear. According to Swedenborg himself, if I understand it correctly, life on the other side is a lot like here, but a lot more vibrant, and without all the problems that we have.

I looked up the Swedenborg Foundation's channel. I've never thought about anything much spiritual but maybe I should try to be open to it. I know this is a spiritualist forum before anyone out there feels obliged to point it out! This would be a new departure for me.

Actually, Ruby, this website is NOT a Spiritualist one, this forum isn't a Spiritualist one.

ALF is here to provide information about - and a place to discuss - the principle of our survival beyond corporeal death in a state we call the afterlife. (a word carried in the website's name)

I happen to be a Modern Spiritualist but few, if any, other contributors are. Spiritualism is ALL about our survival, about life beyond the grave, but this website doesn't have a forum about Modern Spiritualism any more than it has a forum about Roman Catholicism, Buddhism or whatever. I mention my following only in terms of what it has to tell us about survival.

If we consider the basis of all the above it's all about the spirit because without our continuing to exist in spirit form then consideration of all that links to the notion of survival would be a futile exercise. Spirit and survival are eternally inseparable.

I am only interested in the afterlife information that they have. As I may have mentioned, some of it is very reassuring.

It's interesting to think that spiritualism began in the nineteenth century and was set up much like traditional Christian religion, because that was what people were used to since society was very religious. It was claimed that spiritualism was based on fact and observation rather than on faith, like the old church, because of what was observed coming from mediums and the craze for holding seances as Victorian parlour games and so on. When you call yourself a "modern" spiritualist how does that differ?
It's difficult to get one's head around the idea that traditional religion may be closer to the truth of what's out there, which science may be coming round to accepting, although there will almost certainly never be actual proof! Faith may still be needed! And so ordinary people like me just go round in circles!

From the talk from Prof Ed Kelly I made a note of this:- "There's a subtle assymetry for physicalism to explain. The challenge to physicalists is that it's not matter that idealists have to explain under the physicalist scheme of things but rather the regularities of experience that the physicalist picture was invented to explain".
