Has anyone ever noticed the smell of someone that has died?

I hope this is appropriate here - these accounts of scents remind me of something that happened to me several years ago. I was at my sisters house and her friend Mary, who is a healer, had arranged to give me a healing session. As there were several guests at the house we chose to do this in my bedroom and I went upstairs to make sure it was tidy! On entering there was an overwhelming smell of strong earthy tobacco. No-one in the house was smoking and the smell wasn't coming from outside, it was confined to my room. I left the window open to clear the air, but the smell persisted. My sister brought Mary up to my room and I said "I'm sorry, there's a strong smell in here!" My sister could smell it too. Then we noticed that Mary was grinning and looking sort of responsible. She told us that this often happens to her and the smell is due to her Native American guides - the smell of the peace pipe. After the most amazing healing session I've ever had the privilege to receive, the smell gradually dispersed. I did smell it twice again on very stressful occasions when others smelt it too.

I do smell my fiance's perfume sometimes but She doesn't often communicate that way but I had a very interesting experience involving smell many years ago. I remember a past life as a confederate soldier in the civil war. I was shot in the chest and thrown off my horse and died. I have no empirical evidence of this just dreams, thoughts and impressions so maybe I'm out to lunch on this.
Several years after I "remembered" that past life I was in a Reiki training seminar and lying on a table while one of trainers was working on me. He said there was a terrible stench coming from my chest. A little bit embarrassing to hear that. He said it was sulphur and my chest was open. I asked if it could be gunpowder and "remembered" the whole scenario of my death.

In February, after I looked at a tribute page to my son on a website, the air was filled with a lovely, very strong perfume, just after I closed down my tablet. It didn't last long and I couldn't find a source for it. That night my son appeared beside the bed, all 6ft 5in of him. No face, thankful for that! We joked that it was just like him; scaring his mum on a stormy night. Only in the morning did I link it to looking at this website, as a couple of months before when I looked at it something else happened: he shouted "mum!" at me! Both times it was just as if he was really there. I would like to believe it was really him, but I can't rule out me having hallucinations. Although why would that happen, only one time each: aural and visual, and never again (so far) when I'm completely sane?! It's always on my mind that the last time I saw or heard from him was not at the hospice, but here at home. My son never came home as the doctor appeared at the door one evening two years ago with the results of a blood test and said to take him to hospital when he got home from work. He died five weeks later of a rare cancer. He got married at the hospice, lots of friends visited day and night, but the one wish he didn't fulfil was to see his home again. Maybe he did though?!

I'm glad to know you still see him and
I hope he did see his home again. Hopefully you guys continue to communicate.

My husband died in 2013 and in the first year I sometimes smelt human poo (he had no feeling in his lower body for his last 2 months so this smell was normal). I visited the cemetery with a friend last week and we were talking about me maybe moving back to the UK (live in Germany). As we walked around (also visited her cousin) she asked me if I was planning on taking his ashes with me and I couldn't decide because moving there was more of his dream than mine. When we got back to the car and got inside the stench was there. I didn't say a word but my friend asked me if I could smell it. I told her that it was my husband & she said that it was a sign to take him with me. I would very much like to know your views and if you think it means this or the opposite.

Thanks for the reasurance mac:) I was a bit shocked when I realised that he was there as I haven't felt him nearby for a very long time. Made me tearful for a moment but then I was glad to know that he's probably always watching over me.
