Why are people still so mean to each other?

First of all, where do souls come from? If you look at the population, obviously there are a lot more people now then there were hundreds of years ago. Where do the new souls for more people come from? Are there souls that have never been here? Do they all start at the bottom and work their way up so we have to deal with all the bad just to teach new souls every time we're here?

Which then leads me to the title question. If we've all been here so many times, why are there still so many bad people doing so many bad things? Wouldn't you get the drift by at least your 5th or 6th time?

I'd just think that eventually after people coming back time and time again, the good would have to start outweighing the bad and instead things actually seems to be getting worse.

I've thought about this a lot too, and it seems to me that the bad outweighs the good because there are, by necessity --- due to the need for more souls for the expanding population --- a lot of new inexperienced souls on earth, outweighing the numbers of old souls who have come back many times.
It is also true that souls might come back many times and not learn important lessons while here, and that, similarly, a soul who has come a few times, due to the nature of the journey on earth, might evolve very quickly in one life time. That said, I think it is true that there are many more newer souls now than there have been earlier, given the expanding population on earth.
On our plane, we are working toward oneness with God, and the hope is for a better earth; therefore, to counterbalance the problem of new souls being inexperienced and acting in cruel and selfish ways, it may be that there needs to be more contact with the afterlife. It seems as though messages from the afterlife can result in more dramatic change than messages from people on the earth plane, so that might be a remedy for our situation now. This is just my humble opinion.

Angabange, this is what I learned from years of studies, particularly with the works of Dr. Michael Newton, author of "Journey of Souls" and Craig Hogan, author of "Your Eternal Self" (wonderful book, btw). There are other members on this board who have far more experience than I do and who are also more spiritually gifted, so hopefully they will join in this conversation.

All of us are part of the Creator, the All-That-is, God. With every incarnation, whether on this Earth or another dimension, a piece of our soul always remains with the Creator. If you are interested in the increase of the world population in relation to souls, may I refer you to Craig's book (you can also read it online. I believe); I'm positive he explains it way better than I ever could. Suffice it to say that it appears the soul can "split" (again, Craig and Michael Newton explain it better.

In regards to "wouldn't you get the drift by at least your 5th or 6th time"... we generally do not remember our past incarnations; we may get glimpses through sessions of past-life regressions, but in your day-to-day living you most probably would not remember a past life and the lessons you still need to learn. Also, in the Grand Scheme, 5 or 6 incarnations are like a drop in an ocean; we incarnate many, many times; if we don't learn here, we'll learn somewhere else, but learn we must.

What I believe - and this is just my personal opinion - is that the best way to learn is to strive and seek for spiritual enlightment which, for many, is learned in various forms and ways, sometimes through periods of severe crises, like an NDE, for example. Again my opinion, but if/when we grow spiritually, our perspective will change, we will no longer be so obsessed with the heaviness and materialism of this world; we will hear a little voice inside that tells us we're all spiritual being and that Love reigns above all; learn to love yourself, others and all of nature, for others and nature are but a reflection of your own self.

Hope I did not make all this as clear as muddy waters!

These are probably questions we will not get a clear answer to for some time to come, and I've pondered these things also.

As to the number of souls, I think because ALL is Mind and Energy, the possible creation of new souls must be infinite, that being said, can we be absolutely sure as to the maximum world population at any given point in time, or even the Universal population just thinking about it. We generally accept that this isn't the only populated planet, so how many souls exist now?

I also believe very stongly in a hierachy, in heaven as it is here on Earth, which would confirm that some souls will be less advanced.

Why are people still so mean to each other? Well, that is a situation that has developed over our recorded history and Society, Environment, Religions, and Human Weakness for Power and Glory as well as a need to "follow" have all contributed to where we are now.

The Spiritual Awakening we discuss here on this forum is far more than just a global acceptance of an Afterlife, is includes a deep realisation and commitment that we are also the caretakers of this World and need to start to nurture and protect it, for the good of all and all future generations. The Physical World and the Spiritual World are so intwined and so reliant on one another that one cannot flourish without the other. Hense the importance of positive influences in Love, Forgiveness and Unselfish Pursuits.

The answer may well depend on what a person's interpretation of a soul is. And as in many explanations on numerous spiritual topics, people's views will differ due to personal experience and/or their beliefs. I consider the soul and the human spirit to not be the same. In reference to the soul my own perception is that it is the Spirit of life Consciousness or perhaps God to some people. Whereas our human spirit is a facet of this wondrous Spirit that incarnated on this planet as an individual entity to experience life as a human being for the sole purpose and benefit of our soul or 'God'. Therefore the soul has always existed and will continue to exist as it neither has a beginning nor an end. If all forms of life are connected as is often claimed, it may be reasonable to suggest that there is only one soul that of 'God'- rather than an indefinite number of individual souls. This could imply that there are no new souls being born as well as there being some souls that have never incarnated.

This brings us to the individual human spirit which some people refer to as the soul. It is this spirit of consciousness that a medium connects with for spiritual communication to provide evidence of survival of the human spirit for the relatives and loved ones remaining on our dimension. It is this self same spirit that judges itself on how they have interacted with other life forms whilst living here. In time they will make amends for any action which they consider was inhumane or similar. We each have the opportunity to progress through the innumerable spheres of the afterlife but there is no rush as we have all of eternity to do so.

I tend not to be a follower of past lives and my reason will probably contradict other peoples beliefs on the forum. In my opinion there is little evidence that proves the human spirit being expressed today is or was the self same spirit as yesterday's. Our connection with the one soul may account for the various reports being relayed on past lives, so maybe reincarnation does occur but I don't believe it happens in the way some people envisage it to be. I doubt there will ever be an idealist world such as Utopia as perfection will never be attained. Some people go through life not recognising or accepting they have a spiritual side, I wonder if this could be one reason why spiritual progression on the earth plane appears to be a slow and gradual process.
It's not what happens to us that matters but how we handle what happens to us

If you look at world history things are getting better. In most parts of the world, slavery has been abolished, serfdom has been abolished, governments are elected first by landowners only, then by all men, then by men and woman. In more advanced nations Social Security has been established. Woman are gaining equal rights. Technology has made our lives easier and allows us to live longer. Even though world population has increased significantly in the past 30 years, the number of people who die from hunger has been halved. Institutions have been set up to curtail wars. With the Internet we have information at our fingertips cheaply. Spirituality is spreading and has started to be investigated by serious scientists. We're becoming more sensitive to the environment. Yes, humanity has a long, long way to go. And there are setbacks. I agree that people have become 'meaner' since the worldwide financial debacle that started about 4 years ago. But, looking at the bigger picture, I think we're headed in the right direction. And I think that change is happening at a much faster pace. Of course, I have to recall what a friend of mine told me when I referred to myself as an Eternal Optimist; "There's a fine line between being an eternal optimist, and being in chronic denial".

I plan on reincarnating, just for fun, but only once the earthplane has eliminated childhood hunger and disease -- physical, mental and emotional. That will be my pet project in between incarnations. Join me?

I am not well educated when it comes to the “technical” side of the afterlife. I.E. “where do souls come from?”. I have a general idea and I can visualize it in my head.. and I have a certain “feeling” as to where we (souls) come from, but I will leave that answer for people who have more research in that. Wherever new souls come from, for some reason they are choosing to live where I live because it is taking me a ridiculous time to get to work in the morning and home in the afternoon!!!!!

Everything is a process my friend Angabange. Changes are happening but very slowly.. it may not be visible to our human eyes.. but believe me its happening and it is happening in some places more than others. Trust me.. I feel where you are coming from… I know it does seem like things have gotten worse in the world and that every time you turn on the news its nothing but more blood in the streets, pain, violence, greed, rape, neglect, ect… Just God awful things that makes me question at least once a day “what’s the point in even trying?”. But we must keep trying. We must keep going. We have to push through that human side of us that weighs us down everyday and engulf ourselves with our spirit that is all knowing.

And yes it does seem like there are new souls being created everyday. And I believe that there are. Please know that newly “in-experienced” souls are actually a blessing in disguise for they teach us patience and how to deal with other people. At first it’s like you want to pull your hair out when you are around someone who is closed minded and doesn’t care much about anything but themselves. But as time goes on, you learn how to deal with these people and understand that they will in time evolve much like I’m sure you have evolved in time Angabange. It’s all a process you see. You will learn that there are things in this world that you can fix and that there are things in this world that you will never be able to fix. Those things that you cannot fix, ask yourself how will you deal with it? Will you become angry, distressed, and bitter? Or will you go the opposite route and be a positive example to society so that your positive energy will cause a ripple effect in this world.. It may not be a huge or drastic ripple.. but slow gradual change is the change that lasts forevermore.

And now you have gotten me on a roll You see there may be circumstances that are out of our control.. but the true meaning of this is not the “why?” But rather how are you going to deal with it? It is good to question and ask why. But try not to dwell too much in the “why’s” and instead work your way around the negativity while you come up with solutions to make this world a better place. I learn how to cherish just the little things now. Like when people open the door for me. A random smile at the store. Things like that keep me motivated everyday. In a world filled with such darkness we can shine a little light and make it better by doing just the simple things. I can’t stop every child from being abused or neglected.. but I can treat my child with love and compassion so that when she grows up she can treat her children that way and so forth and so forth. That will create better people in this world. You cannot stop other people from being mean to one another. But you can continue to be kind Angabange. Again, you work around the negativity and make this dark world all your beautiful own. Please don’t worry about the why’s. It will all make sense to you in time. If not in this life.. then in the hereafter. ~~

I've wondered this too and this is my take on it, based on things I've read and just my own conclusions.

I don't think there are "new" souls in the sense that these souls have just been created. I think every soul has been around forever. Some people theorize that the way souls were created in the first place was that God kind of split into a bunch of pieces, but I'm not 100% sure about this and I think it's just as likely that we just always were our own entities. There are other planets out there that you can incarnate on, I've heard Mikey say two others and that life there is a lot easier than it is on Earth. I don't know why exactly...maybe people in those places have different kinds of bodies that allow them to not need all the maintenance we humans need. Technology is more advanced and this is likely where aliens come from who occasionally visit earth and I don't really know what they do here but it's always things that are meant to help us.

But I'm digressing. So the way I see it is, the most advanced beings one day decided to create a beautiful but dangerous world where we would all just start from scratch, filling it with all sorts of flora and fauna and natural elements. The first people to populate this world were either really spiritually advanced or really brave. Life was difficult, but life was short. As souls in the afterlife watched from the sidelines, more and more of them decided to incarnate. Time went by, languages developed, different customs and ways of life blossomed. Societies advanced and created art, music, beautiful architecture, literature, different foods, different activities and hobbies. Loving relationships of all sorts formed. Technology and industry advanced. But along with all of this came the not-so-pleasant stuff like war, disease, poverty, hunger, murder, rape, natural disaster, vehicular accidents, you name it. But the population grew because more people were seeing that everyone who went to earth had spirit guides watching out for them to make sure things didn't get TOO out of hand, and when they died and came back to the afterlife, most of them seemed happier and more understanding of each other than before.

So the reason there are more people here now is because more souls are finally getting the courage to come here. Not everyone has had boatloads of incarnations...for some people here on earth, it's their first time around. Others might have done it years ago and thought that was enough. Remember that for everyone living here, there is at least one spirit guide. There might be more of us than we realize, but I don't necessarily think there's a limitless supply. I do think that we'll hit a plateau - many developed countries are seeing a decrease in population and I think the developing nations will soon follow, realizing that quality of life is more important than quantity.

And I do think we're getting better and learning from our mistakes. Germany never had another Holocaust, America never dropped another atom bomb or reinstituted slavery. People in the Middle East more and more are demanding social liberties. There's more support out there and things like this forum are letting us become more spiritually aware. It just takes a long, long time to get there.

Hi Annie, Great analogy. So if I understand you, originally we're all spiritually advanced beings, we co-create an imperfect world and come here to experience what it's like to be imperfect beings in an imperfect world, and return to our original state a little more spiritually advanced because of our experience? Or am I putting words in your mouth (which i, as an imperfect being, have a tendency to do).

Great posts! And Mikey agrees. He feels things are gradually improving here. When you look back in history there was horrible things going on, and there still are, but I feel certain things have toned down and would never occur any more. I think of the movie Gladiator and how that actually was real entertainment! Yikes!
Poeticblue you are so right that if we do our best even with the simple things as we go along that can trickle out good stuff. I always go back to the Michael Jackson song (can't think of the title) but the verse is "If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change."
Mikey wants me to tell you that you always are and always will be. He says it is not that new souls are being "created", it is that more souls are coming for spiritual growth. He tells me that the term "younger souls" refers to souls with less "earthly experiences". And Poeticblue you are so right that they teach us alot about patience, etc. I always find it interesting how in certain situations, and individual just "gets it" and works it out in a kind manner, while someone else in the same situation takes it a whole different way. Mikey says the individual who just gets it is an "older soul" = more experience to go on to work through the situation. Mikey too says that your "Higher Self" stays in Heaven and your "consciouness = your mind= part of your soul" is here. He says that life has challenges, but these challenges do bring spiritual growth. Hopefully with increasing openness, life on earth will become more loving.
    Carol and Mikey "in Spirit"
