I don't think it's a matter of spiritual OR science.
Your tongue has taste buds that are able to detect salty and sweet flavors. This information is transmitted by neurons to your brain where it is interpreted.
Also, peanut butter and chocolate taste delicious. Knowing -- or not knowing -- the mechanism by which we experience deliciousness doesn't make the flavor less pleasant. I can drive my car whether or not I know how internal combustion engines work. The experience and the mechanism are two separate things.
