Yes! Maybe that is why I don't seem to get too restless with housework. I always love that feeling that everything is sparkling, even if things look pretty much the same as before (though with fewer dust bunnies). Introverts unite

They are all charged up.. and now they are ready to go for another round on earth (or whichever planet they choose). When you are tired and stressed its hard to see the bigger picture in things and you just want out of this world. However it seems as though once we are rested and peaceful we then begin to see things more clearly. When you are surrounded by pure love and you are rested, you feel as though you can take on anything! Apparently living an earth life is relatively short from the afterlife's point of view. So I don't see why its hard to believe that one would choose to come back. You think "Hey earth life is quick, I'm eternal, nothing can truly hurt me there, and I'm a strong spirit. Bring it on!!!" But then when you get here you go from spirit to human form. You go from being perfect to being imperfect. You lose all memory of the afterlife and where you came from. Now the reality sets in that this was going to be harder than you thought.

Billy: When you feel paralyzed you have to relax. Its just your astral self either trying to get out of your physical body, or your astral self trying to get back in. You feel like you can't move because you are not all the way back inside yourself. Yes, it can be scary when you don't know what is going on. Hell I know what's going on and I still get scared but one thing I learned how to do was relax. When you relax, take deep breaths, and then motion yourself in or out, you wont feel paralyzed anymore. I've had dreams inside of dreams too. I hate those. Trickery! I'm not too sure in your particular case however, if you were still dreaming or if you were really viewing your room from outside of your body. You said you tried to wake up and then felt paralyzed. You were trying to get back inside your body and your brain caught onto that. Again, you couldn't move cause you weren't all the way in your body. I will share something with you that you may find interesting. These "dreams inside of dreams" whether they really are dreams or whether its us viewing our rooms outside of our bodies, one thing I always noticed is my room would look slightly different. Like most everything looks the same except there may be a picture hanging on the wall that's not mine! Or a random beach ball would be sitting in the corner. I hate hate hate that! Its creepy! I did some research on why this happens. The closest thing I could find that seemed to make the most sense is that when we are viewing our own rooms outside of our body, our energy picks up on certain materials that were left there by the previous home owner. This is especially true if you live in an apartment. Usually these materials were of great value to the previous owner and our energy picks up on that. So if I ever saw a picture hanging up on the wall that wasn't mine or a freaking beach ball out of nowhere, apparently I am picking up on somebody else's energies that use to live there. (I still dont like it)
Dreams within dreams, with someone else's residual possessions showing up? I learn something new every time I read here! Wow.

Wow poetic blue, I really feel I'm learning more. I didn't think that before about the waking up within a dream and feeling paralysed. I really do think now from what you've said, that I am having an OBE, and trying to re enter my body, which does'nt work straight away, which is why I am aware, and also paralysed.

I will try that tip in future, and just relax if it happens again.

Also thanks for telling us about the unknown random objects that appear in a room. It makes sense the way you explained it.

I'll always remember one strange dream I had. I was in a house that I had never seen in my life. I became lucid, and was picking up objects and examining them. There were so many objects in detail. I remember seeing a full ashtray on a bedside table, and books in the bookcase in the living room. I even knew that the name of the road was Sevenoaks road. Don't know what this dream was about.

One tip I've got is how to stop a nightmare, or turn a bad dream around. I will imagine a swimming pool and dive into it to get away from whatever. Or I say the lords prayer in my dream. These always work for me

Ps. Another thing I do in my dreams if lucid, and if I want to check if I am within a dream is turn light switches on, they never normally work in dreams. Other things that don't work either are difficulty remembering telephone numbers, telephones etc. Any idea poetic blue why these don't work?

Billyjean, I wish I had experienced just a little of what you have. Seems as if I'm always on the outside knocking on the window.

Billy -- the experience of feeling paralyzed when waking from a dream is not that unusual.

Normally, during REM sleep, your brain shuts off most of the muscles in your body, presumably so we don't physically act out what's happening in the dream. Like any physical function, this doesn't always work perfectly. Some people do occasionally act out their dreams, which can be dangerous to them or to their sleep partners. What you experience is sort of the opposite of that -- the paralysis continues briefly even though you may have awakened from sleep. If you Google "sleep paralysis" you will find more information about this phenomenon.

None of this contradicts poeticblue's explanations -- I don't think the scientific understanding and the spiritual understanding are in conflict. But I thought it might make this sensation less upsetting if you know that it's a fairly common and minor physical malfunction.

I have often experienced, while dreaming, a sensation that I want to run but am only able to move in slow motion. Once I dreamed I was trying to hurry down a street but it was covered about a foot deep in pumpkin pie filling. I suspect this is another version of my brain trying to make sense of the fact that muscles aren't responding to the brain's signals in the way they would when I'm awake.

Thanks. I was going to say that there will always be a scientific explanation for everything. I choose the spiritual route because it makes more sense to me. All this talk about REM and brain chemicals from other researches does not ring true to me. Maybe its both spiritual and scientific. I wont dispute that.

Hi billy! Telephone and light switches may not work when you realize you are dreaming or remotley start doubting if you are dreaming or not. Why? Because they are earthy, physical things. When you are in the dream world it is purley astral. Your brain will not "will" these objects to work once you remotley start to doubt if its real. They can still work. But you have to tell them to work. But if you are looking at your dream objectively in a "prove it to me" way.. well then when the lights dont work and the phones dont work, there is your proof that you are dreaming.

Thanks poeticblue. That explains well why they don't work, in that it is because they are earthy, physical things.

I usually test them in my dreams to prove to myself that I am dreaming. If they don't work, I know that I am dreaming.

Next time, I will try willing them to work, to see what happens.
