Not sure what the previous post had to do with Long Island Medium, but new episodes are on again now, Sunday evenings on TLC.

I can't watch the show because whenever I see her the word "fake" sound loud and clear in my head. I'm starting to wonder if she's even psychic.
Sorry bout that Birki, my point was that it doesnt (seem to) matter which of these shows you watch, there really (IMHO) is no such thing as 'Reality' television, just for the mere fact that it IS on television. I dont really think it is solely the producers (on any shows) fault, people seem to like the Reality TV aspect, but (I imagine) if any of these shows were 100% reality not as many people would watch.
My second point is...I dont care one way or the other, I know what to expect, however...on some of these shows the objective is (supposed to be) to help people and they seem to just be exploiting the very people they have volunteered to help in order to get the highest ratings, but I guess I would expect no less from them.
You are right though, I will not respond to this thread any further until I have actually seen LIM, but I think I will have to wait till it becomes available on Netflix.
Bless You :-)

Chris, I think you should start a new thread on paranormal reality shows. I don't think your first post got as many views as it might have it you had put it in a new thread. Some people have already formed opinions about LIM, so they might now even look at this thread if they are not interested in that.
I'm a skeptic when it comes to mediums. Sometimes the long island medium seems to be just fishing. But other rimes she has given very specific information. I'm sure on her part she could well be "acting" sometimes. But the people she often speaks to seem genuinely believable.
I have a few questions and observations. Ok, I am very, very skeptical when it comes to psychics; most of them seem to follow a pattern in the way they give "readings". I noticed that many - if not all - talk in rather general terms and speak quickly, leaving little time to let their words sink in, little time to deny or correct what they say. I watched a couple of Long Island Medium episodes, and I was not impressed. Why would a reputable psychic want to do a "reality show" (don't know why they call them "reality" shows, as I don't think there's much reality in them, lol).
Even with psychics like John Edwards and Van Praagh, I really wonder about some things, like the cruises, for example; why?
The only person who, imho, was truly gifted died less than 2 months ago at the age of 105. He was a NativeIndian living in Oklahoma. I consider myself lucky to have met him. Born blind, he nevertheless could describe a person's features accurately, he could drive a car. Yes, I did not believe it either, at first, but he truly was blind; not myopic, but blind. When he reached the age of 70 or so, his two sons begged him to stop journeying to the other world, as he would end up totally drained of energy afterwards. He told me "the young man tried to contact many but they could not hear him" (referring to my daughter's ex boyfriend who died unexpectedly at the age of 29). He also said the doctors had the cause of death wrong, and he was right. He once did something for me that I would never have believed. I did not know what was happening, but I sure felt it; it lasted about 20 minutes, and when it was over I felt as if a big weight had been lifted off me, even the light around me seemed brighter; and he did it all "long distance".
Ooops, sorry for going off on a tangent
Also, I'd also like to take this opportunity to say sorry for making myself scarce. A friend of mine is going through a terrible time; her 33-yr old son, after years of battling with depression, decided to end his life. They found him in a local motel room bathroom, where he shot himself; he was her only son. I am trying to help her the best way I know how, but I'm sure it's not enough... really don't know what to do; I hope time will heal some of her wounds.
Sorry if I highjacked the thread. All I can say at this point about that show is that I don't believe she possesses unusual gifts. I think her biggest motivators are fame and money; it may be crass of me, but that's how I see it.
This is the link for the Dr. Oz show, which featured Teresa Caputo, the Long Island Medium. Her readings here seem to indicate that people are genuinely surprised by her ability to know personal things about them.

I used to watch some of these paranormal-themed reality shows. I began to lose interest when the general "spook factor" (as opposed to the "spiritual") seemed more prevalent and lacked the necessary reverence for the subject.
Entertainment hasn't always been kind to the metaphysical, probably thanks to the very definition of the genre: entertainment.

Yeah this is how I feel about most paranormal themed shows. The only ones I watch now are Ancient Aliens and Paranormal Witness. Some of the stuff on Ancient Aliens is a bit far fetched, and sometimes the can be a little overly enthusiasitc about their cause. But for the most part that show is actually decently good. Paranormal Witness is basically accounts of people who have dealt with ghosts. Every once in awhile someone on there makes me wonder if they are just making stuff up. But overall it's actually pretty good. It doesn't have that overly done "let's do an EVP session and then play back some white noise and claim it has a message" vibe that alot of shows now have.
