To a great extent we are controlled by money - or at least, by those who control the money. (This is assuming money is the bits of paper you have in your wallet).

From a loaf of bread to an ounce of gold - these things are not worth any more today than they were ten, a hundred or even a thousand years ago. Prices may go up but the value stays the same.
