What are "Signs" that you might be a Medium?

Just wondering if anyone has stories, signs or messages they know of that are often seen as "signs" that they are Mediums. I know a Medium who became very ill at age 22 or so, she'd suffer terrible dreams and nightmares and would see things. Once she figured out she had psychic abilities and addressed them the sickness ceased. Any others?

I have heard many how-I-became-a-medium stories, and they seem to be highly variable. Some people were able to see earthbounds and visitors from the Summerland even as small children; others had a severe illness in adolescence that fried their brain-circuits into mediumship; still others worked hard and for many years to develop the latent psychic ability that is in all of us. I think that the best and most accurate mediums were born with a sharply heightened sensitivity - John Edward comes to mind - but that isn't always the case. Even those with greater abilities have to work hard with an other-side "control" to become really accurate psychic mediums, since the talent may be there but the messages are vague and vapory without a great deal of practice. I will be interested to hear more stories!

Hi Luz! It is important to remember, in this case, that everyone has the ability to be at least a proficient medium, if not a good one. Sure, most people are never called to be mediums, but we all have the innate ability to some extent. It's like singing, dancing, drawing, or any other talent - everyone can do it moderately well, but some people are extremely gifted. That being said, people who have not chosen to become mediums as part of their life plan probably won't get signs. (I am currently working on developing my psychic abilities. I doubt that I'll ever be a great medium, but there is no reason why I can't communicate.)

Those who are destined to become great mediums will get hammered with signs, in one way or another, until they realize what they are meant to do. As Roberta says above, these signs can vary from person to person, just like after-death communication varies from person to person. It all depends on what will effect that specific person in the best way.

I have heard of a lot of mediums, including Lisa Williams, who were just born with the ability to the see dead people. They could, from childhood, see the deceased. Many of them report wondering why no one else could see these people.

Personally, I don’t have any stories but, I am also interested to hear some stories. But, I know a medium that have the abilities to communicate with dead people.
