This may be of interest to some: This month in his editor’s e-mail interview, Tony Ortzen questions leading medium Glyn
Edwards, a former hairdresser who first heard mention of Spiritualism in his salon.
When did you first come into contact with Spiritualism and how?
When I was eighteen and working in a hairdressing salon, one of my clients mentioned that she
had spoken to her "dead" son. Subsequently, I booked a sitting with the same medium under an
assumed name and told no one I was going.
I was late arriving for the sitting. When the medium answered the door, she said: "Hello, Glyn. Your
grandma, Cissie, has been waiting for you."
Remarkable evidence was given to me at that sitting about my grandfather–how he died, a newspaper article about his death and the name of the newspaper.
However, it was twenty years before I could prove this evidence was absolutely correct, as my
great aunt had a forgotten copy of the newspaper. Everything was as the medium described.
The medium also told me about my own life and relationships at that time; that my family would
go to Australia; that I would go and come back. She also gave other significant family information.
Briefly describe your occupation before becoming a medium.
I went into hairdressing and worked hard to build up an international reputation.
How long have you now been a medium?
I was nineteen when I took my first demonstration of medium-ship. I have now been a medium
for 37 years.
What's the best part about being a medium?
Demonstrating. Proving that life after death is a fact by the evidence we can give.
Similarly , what is the worst aspect?
To discover that people do not appreciate or understand what survival is all about and the implications of this.
Do you think Spiritualism generally and mediums need to improved their image? If
so, how?
I would like to see Spiritualism taking itself seriously and not just as a phenomenon, but as a
science and a way of life.
I would also like to bring back into Spiritualism a rational study of everything that relates
to life, religion and spiritual life from every tradition, so that we know and understand
where religion and spiritual tradition are really coming from.
What advice would you give to a fledgling medium?
Be patient and study your mediumship. Understand how it works from moment to moment.
Mediumship touches every aspect of life. Evidence is to be gained from everything.
What we term "spirit" exists in animate and inanimate objects.
Study it, remembering that however much you unfold, you are still a fledgling.
In all aspects of your enfoldment, it will be a continual process. You will never have all the
