My son, Sholom, was killed in a hit and run accident in 2009. Since his death, I have received numerous "messages" from/about him, assuring me that he is safe and well in the afterlife. The "messages" are based on (1) a key phrase in a Biblical idea (Zayis Raanan) that he shared with us, his family, thirty hours before he died, and (2) his unusual Hebrew name, Sholom B'nayahu. I have written about these messages in a book called, Zayis Raanan: The Gift of the Fresh Olive.

The messages appear through a system called "gimatriya" which assigns a number value to each letter in the Hebrew alphabet. Since the Bible was originally written in Hebrew, and the original text has not changed in the 3300 years it has been in human hands, I believe the messages are authentic. The numerical value of Zayis Raanan (787) and the numerical value of Sholom's full Hebrew name (449) appear in specific Biblical passages that (1) spell out his life story and (2) affirm his ultimate destiny of "dwelling in the house of God."

One thing I have longed for is to "see" him once more - at least in a dream. I partially got my wish a week before the Passover holiday of 2011. In the dream, I saw Sholom, but only from the back. When I woke, I remembered a Biblical passage that referenced "seeing from the back." The numerical value of that passage is 376 which is the same value as the name "Sholom" without his second name. Later that morning, I was gardening and picked up a "rock." It turned out to be a frog. What is interesting is that the only time "frog" appears in singular in the Five Books of Moses, it appears as "the frog" which has the numerical value of 449 - the same value as Sholom's full name. I found this meaningful, as that day, had he been on this plane of existence, Sholom would have been coming home for the Passover holiday.

But, still, I wanted to see him from the "front." I finally got my wish. On Friday morning, December 2, I saw him in a dream just before I woke. He was wearing his characteristically brilliant smile and he seemed incredibly happy. What was amazing was that this dream happened just after 787 full twenty-four hour periods since his death. Again, the number is 787 is significant, because of the idea of Zayis Raanan (Fresh Olive) that he spoken of just before he died.

God, in His infinite mercy, has given me this incredible gift - first of having such a wonderful young man as a son - but then assuring me that though he is not "here," he really is with me all the time.

Oh, dear Shabse, I am so thrilled for you!! And I love the way your wonderful Sholom is using the religious tradition that you share to make his communications even more significant - and to play with you as well, perhaps. "Here, Dad, there is a numerical or scriptural message in this - can you find it?" What an extraordinary series of communications, dear beloved friend!
